The touch screen of the BlackBerry Torch 9800 is capacitive – something you’d expect from a modern phone. It looks and feels like a high quality mobile, and comes with a 3.2 inch screen. If you’ve used the iPhone 4’s Retina display then you may feel slightly let down by the clarity of the Torch 9800, but it’s still pretty good and does the job well. The screen rarely feels cluttered and you always seem to have enough space for the task in hand.
Unlike other BB phones, the BlackBerry Torch 9800 comes with a slide out keyboard. When you slide the keyboard in locks in position without rattling, and the phone as a whole feels well built. Some of the best features of the BlackBerry Torch 9800 include that it has a smooth feeling touchscreen, the slide out keyboard means that the phone is still suitable for business people without having to reduce screen size and the display is bright and clear. The camera is also a bonus, as it’s reasonably high quality and comes with scene selectors.
There are some problems with the BlackBerry Torch 9800 mobile phone though. The main one is that the handset doesn’t seem as responsive and quick as you’d expect from a modern smart phone. The keyboard is necessarily smaller, which makes typing a bit harder than on other RIM models. Other problems include that the media functions don’t stand up to other smart phones and that the phone feels quite heavy.
